Production Funding

Maitri River Productions has several ways to pursue funding a production.  Our goal is to separate funding from the artist’s intention and creative process.  Thus, we consider partnerships on productions, and also produce work that is fiscally sponsored to maintain the artist’s creative control.  We also maintain a grassroots audience-building campaign to engage and connect with audiences for our productions and like-minded supporters.

About Patreon

Maitri River Production’s networking and audience-building is funded through crowdfunding on Patreon.  The audience-building process for productions is driven by content marketing strategies on social media.  This strategy allows our like-minded supporters can help us raise interest in our productions for as little as $1/month.  Audience-building is a vital function to help us display the potential impact of a production.  If you believe that a Maitri River Production will make a positive impact on one of your priorities or passions, please support that production for $1 here at Patreon.

About Partnerships

For productions, that are not fiscally sponsored, Maitri River Productions can partner with investors on productions.  Such projects must be compliant with the Maitri River Productions mission.

About Fiscal Sponsorship

Donations supporting Maitri River Productions projects are tax-deductible charitable donations.  This is made possible by Fractured Atlas, the country’s largest arts fiscal sponsor.  Fractured Atlas works with thousands of artists and arts organizations.  Maitri River Productions is a member of Fractured Atlas and enrolls productions in Fractured Atlas’ Fiscal Sponsorship Program.

To qualify for Fractured Atlas Fiscal Sponsorship, a project is evaluated on the following criteria published by Fractured Atlas: “Projects must be artistic in nature and may not be produced solely for commercial gain. The term "project" is used very broadly, and may refer to a one-time project, an ongoing group or company, or even the work and career of an individual artist.”  In April 2019, Fractured Atlas accepted Maitri River Productions into its Fiscal Sponsorship Program for the documentary series Abundant.

Abundant has structured sponsorship offerings that are consistent with guidelines provided by Fractured Atlas. These guidelines are intended to maintain a donor/sponsor relationship rather than a corporate advertising or partnership relationship which would not be tax deductible.  Materials provided by Maitri River Productions, and by extension Maitri River Productions itself, does not offer legal or tax advice on this subject and it is the responsibility of the donor to verify all related tax and legal details to their satisfaction.

Donors will make their tax-deductible donations to Fractured Atlas for Maitri River Productions’ fiscally sponsored projects.  Fractured Atlas distributes funds in the form of a grants to Maitri River Productions for use in producing and meeting the goals of the fiscally-sponsored project.

Fractured Atlas supports fiscally sponsored projects that are consistent with its IRS-approved charitable mission.  Fractured Atlas’ published Mission Statement reads: “Fractured Atlas empowers artists, arts organizations, and other cultural sector stakeholders by eliminating practical barriers to artistic expression, so as to foster a more agile and resilient cultural ecosystem.”

Fractured Atlas receive grants for the charitable purposes of its fiscally-sponsored projects, provide oversight to ensure that grant funds are used in accordance with grant agreements, and provide reports as required by the grantor. Contributions for the charitable purposes of Fractured Atlas’ fiscally-sponsored projects must be made payable to Fractured Atlas and are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law.

Information about Fractured Atlas can be found at www.fracturedatlas.org.
